When my good friend and Bologna expert Palma asked me what I liked best about Bologna of course I replied “the food”, but in reality I liked everything about my time there. The centro is chock full of beautiful buildings and I did my fair share of simply walking around admiring them.
The area around Piazza Maggiore is where I took most of these photos and I never tired of sitting on the steps there watching the world go by.
You can walk up to the top of the above tower and get a spectacular view over the city, but not being a lover of heights I didn’t make the trek. You’ll have to take my word for it or stop by Debra’s blog-Bagni di Lucca and Beyond-she actually made it all the way to the top.
You can climb Lucca’s famous Guinigi Tower-if you come along with me in May- Spring In Tuscany-Cook With Panini Girl In Lucca

The climb to the top takes a lot of effort…for one as unfit as I am, but it was worth it. The Guinigi is much easier and the views from the top are excellent.

Thanks. What a beautiful city. All I ever got to see was the airport.

I love Bologna too Janie. The colours, the edginess. It feels like you could move right tin and have a very interesting life just watching it all happen on the streets.

I have to agree about Bologna being a wonderful city. I also agree with you about not climbing to the top of the tower…I’m not great dealing with heights as well.

We do indeed love Bologna as well. The food is delightful, and the photos you shared are great.
