It’s hard for me to admit this, but I’m not in Italy anymore. Goodbye Arezzo, so long Lucca, arrivederci Firenze. I had to pack up and head on home. J., being the wonderful husband that he is, decided to ease me back into real life and after picking me up in Los Angeles whisked me away to Santa Barbara. At first I was skeptical about another destination after a month of travel, but it turned out to be just what I needed.
Santa Barbara definitely has a real Mediterranean feel and it was easy to make believe that I was still far away. Our hotel was cozy and very comforting after the very long plane ride back and I’ve barely had any jet lag.
But it was time to face the fact that I had to go home and get back in my own kitchen and so before leaving town we stopped at the farmers’ market. Here I was shopping for produce in California while just a few days ago I was doing the very same thing in Pistoia. It’s okay, I’m ready to start recreating some of my favorite meals from Italy and making plans for the fall trip.
Time marches on…
