Around Town-Barga

Our day trip to the mountains above Lucca led us to the town of Barga, also in the Garfagnana but situated well below the farm. We stopped by this enchanting hill town after our visit to the water mill. It was late afternoon and many of the shops were still closed, but this day wasn’t really about shopping and we were contented with strolling through town, admiring the buildings and the striking vistas.

We didn’t really have enough time to do this town justice, so I’m putting it on my list of places I will return to next time.

  1. Isn’t Barga lovely? We spent part of a day there in 2008 when we visited. We had a lovely lunch in Barga, though I can’t remember the name of the restaurant. Seeing your photos brings back some wonderful memories…

  2. Barga is the most Scottish town in Italy. It is strange to hear the locals break into English with a strong Scottish accent.

  3. I love Barga ,the views from the church at the top of the town are wonderful. At times in the fall and if it’s cold enough you get to see snow on the mountains and that’s a spectacular view. Also there’s a small little gelato shop in Barga with the best and most dark chocolatey gelato I have ever had! I drive up for the gelato each time I’m there!
