I know that it’s early to be touting the glory of fabulous tomatoes, but hey, this is southern California and although we have tomatoes growing all year right down the street from us, this is the first time since last summer that I’ve made a purchase. I’m not saying “oh my God” these are the best tomatoes I’ve ever had, but being that it’s the unofficial start to the summer season, I decided to give it a go and make bruschetta.
I’m not going to give you a recipe because you can find one in so many places. I will however, repeat my advice for great bruschetta: buy the best country style bread that you can find (not baguettes), grill the bread if at all possible, while the bread is hot rub it with a clove of garlic, break out your best extra virgin olive oil, and get your tomatoes from a farmers’ market (not the grocery store)-and I guess I should add-wait until summer when tomatoes are at their peak to make this dish and you will not be disappointed! Buon Appetito!
