Sono Arrivata (I’ve Arrived)

Yes, I’m here in la bell’Italia and to be honest it’s almost surreal. I met my driver Simone, at the Florence airport on Saturday afternoon after an uneventful flight and he was friendly and full of info. As we drove through the outskirts of the centro storico, I turned my head just in time to see the Duomo! Heading through the Tuscan countryside I stared out at rolling hills, olive trees, scattered farms and I couldn’t believe that I was really here. At first we spoke English and then I decided to get brave and try out my Italian and it wasn’t as hard as I had expected and Simone was complimentary, boosting my confidence for the eventual meeting with Mr.Z., my landlord, who speaks no English.
